Custom Cabinetry In The Chattanooga Area

At the EnCraft cabinetry shop, we view ourselves as Craftspeople first and foremost. We are the antithesis of a big-box store, in that all our cabinets are high-touch from start to finish, beginning with the wood we mill in-house, right down to the final coat of paint, which is hand-brushed to provide a classic finish with more depth in the light. Ultimately, we straddle the line between New World Technology and Old World Craftsmanship, cutting all the cabinet parts we can using CNC and numerically controlled machines, and then assembling our cabinets by hand, just as they would have been constructed in the old days.

We’re doing something genuinely unique here at Encraft. If you’re interested in EnCraft cabinets, we invite you to the shop for a tour and conversation, which is the best way to get a sense of what we do and how we do it. We welcome you to our site and our shop!

What a year it’s been in the Encraft woodshop!

2025 was a year of extraordinary growth. In May, Encraft had one part-time employee; by the end of the year, we had grown to two full-time and five part-time team members (not counting Jim, Jim Sr., or Sara). In 2026, two of those part-timers will move into full-time roles, and we’ll be welcoming a full-time project manager to the team. On any given day in the shop, you’ll now find anywhere from five to ten Encraft “Tinker Gnomes” (as we affectionately call our crew), hard at work.

This period of reflection has been both celebratory and substantive. 2025 brought huge successes—and, inevitably, some growing pains. We now have much greater clarity about the kind of cabinets we want to build (and don’t), and about which projects and clients are the best fit for how we work.

In addition to rolling out a whole new set of standard operating procedures designed to make working with us as simple and straightforward as possible, you’ll also see an updated website this year—with new professional photos (soon!) and a clear “What to Expect When Working With Us” section. And keep an eye on our socials: in the spirit of continuing education, we’re planning a series of field trips to cabinet shops and showrooms around the country, learning from others who take this craft as seriously as we do.

Another important focus for the coming year is building strong, collaborative relationships with other talented cabinetmakers and craftspeople in our community. As committed as we are to our aesthetic and approach, Encraft cabinets are not for everyone (for example, we don’t build frameless cabinets). The more we know about who’s doing what locally, the better we can help people find the right maker for their needs. Just as importantly, we believe deeply in collaboration and in supporting local craftspeople wherever we find them.

That commitment begins in our own shop, which is home to a cheerful, deeply talented group of makers. Watch for our “Meet the Team” series early in the new year to get to know each member of the Encraft crew. The shop is a warm, lively (and occasionally loud!) place—and we’d love for you to visit.

As we move into 2026, we remain committed to approaching cabinet building as the great craft we believe it is—and should be. Thank you for a genuinely thrilling year. We’re excited for what’s ahead and grateful to have you with us.

Warmly,
Jim, Sara, and the Encraft Tinker Gnomes
